Back in Canada

Wow -- we always forget how the trip from Bangkok to Toronto always tends to tire one out. We've come to Canada to do a few contracts with Canada World Youth, the youth exchange NGO we've worked with in the past. This time around we'll be running a pair of Participant Orientation Camps, week-plus-long events where exchange country and Canadian program participants start bonding and learning how to work together, to sustain the 6-7 month journey that lies ahead of them. As fate would have it, it was impossible to get flight tickets over the upcoming Labour Day holiday weekend, when we were supposed to arrive. This effectively forced us to arrive in Toronto a full week early, and spend some extra quality time with family (and hopefully some friends as well) -- not that we're complaining! While we're here we can be reached at 604.376.9939 -- a Vanvcouver area code cell phone that will work while we're in major cities. Please get in touch if you're so inclined!

Anyways, we hope you keep visiting the blog often, even though we can't promise updates every day. We can promise, however, that we will do our best to keep in fresh and current, whenever we have an internet connection available.

[Photo of the Day A] Catching a shuttle at Narita Airport near Tokyo,
with Typhoon Mawar pending.

On our way, we had a most peculiar experience. The connecting flight that we were taking from Tokyo ended up leaving an hour early. We had never heard of such a thing! The cause? Apparently, as was witnessed by heavy rain and ever-increasing winds, a typhoon was on its way.

[Photo of the Day B] Tonight, safe and sound in Toronto, Cindy spins
a yarn while her parents listen in rapt attention.

OMG! This is the first time I've seen Manny's hair au naturale. Randy thinks he's looks like Johnny Cash.

Yay! Welcome home! Big hellos to Fred and Manny -- they both look great.

I loved the picture of the shuttle at Narita, by the way -- brought back fond memories of heading out for destinations unknown. Next stop, Thailand! Or China! Or Malaysia! Or Indonesia!

Ah, Asia... I miss you so. Oh, well, at least we have you guys bringing back a little bit of Asia feeling everytime you come to visit us. We'll see you on this coast in a few weeks! xoxox
