Blast from the Past

[Photo of the Day] Blast from the Past:
Four university friends celebrate C&J's wedding
(the other boy is Dennis)

When it rains, it pours. Just a day after The Dread Pirate Robert blog came to life, another close friend and also Vancouver native Dennis Venema decided to jump headfirst into the land of blog. You can see its beginnings at Time's Fun When ..., where he chronicles a family trip. Everyone in the photo apart from the groom actually was an official photographer at our wedding, go figure.

As Jan stared at this photo, he realized that all of its inhabitants are married, and half of them have children. It seems like so recently they were oh-so-carefree in the biology lab! Hopefully one day Dennis will be able to scan in some photos of some motorbike road-tripping to San Francisco that was done, or Carolyn our adventure to Yukon, or any of us some images off of the West Coast Trail -- all seeming to be ages ago. It's a different world now, but I (Jan) can see how every step along the way brought us to the present, to our newfound loved-ones, to that moment of now which is ever moving ahead. It's a good place to be with your better half ;). What do you think?

Thanks for the plug, Jan & Cindy! I don't expect my blog will be of much interest outside of my circle of family & friends, but it's been fun learning how to do this.

Looking at that photo of the four of us does bring back good memories, and cause to reflect on the many changes since UBC undergrad days... Indeed, that we are all happily married is a blessing, and three wonderful kids thus far... and hopefully more someday (but I think I've done my bit already!) :o) nudge, nudge

I do have some B&W negs from the West Coast Trail, and the San Francisco trip that someday might see the light of day (or the light of a scanner). If I get around to it I'll let you know. Can you believe it's been nine years? Time to start planning the 10 year reuinion hike.
