Life in the Soi
[Photo of the Day] In our Soi (or side street, for those unfamiliar with this Thai lingo), there is a lot going on, pretty much all of the time. People play checkers and nurse the odd beer well into the night -- they set up right on the edges of the street -- and many are up as early as 3am to prepare the morning food that they will sell to those that will pass down the lane on their way to work. It's not a rowdy crowd by any means, however.
Probably the rowdiest is a fearless little boy that we quite often we meet up, named Cheukay. Cheukay has a certain look in his eye that says, "I'm looking for some trouble to get into!" He does not hesitate to interact with everyone in the soi, including us. We are not sure how old he is, and until the other day, we didn't even know who his parents were. Here is the family, going on their way...
