Slave Lake, Jewel of Northern Alberta

We noticed in the chatbox that some readers do not have a very good understanding of what an excellent place Slave Lake, Alberta is. In light of this we have decided to provide some photographic documentation. We'll start with one photo, and perhaps others will follow -- there's so many to choose from!

Jan spent a total of about a year living in Slave Lake, and Cindy visited several times. It's a wonderful, diverse place to be, keeping in mind it's a town of 5000. There are two theories that we have heard explaining the name. One is that the town is named after the Slavey Native Tribe, and the other is that Europeans mistook local indentured workers there for slaves years ago, so the moniker stuck.

While doing a little bit of current research on Slave Lake, we discovered that a good friend (Karina Pillay-Kinnee, 3rd from right) who we haven't been in touch with in awhile has become the town mayor! Congratulations Karina!
