This one's for Mom

I won the prize in Vietnam! Despite guiding a group of global trotters, I won the Bumping Into Someone You Know In An Unlikely Place Award - clearly I inherited this gene from my father.

While lunching at the Grand Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia - believe me, it's as opulent as it sounds - who should walk in but my dear cousins Rhonda and Neil. Of course neither of us knew the other was there. The funny thing is, they only discovered me because they happened to walk into my hotel and Rhonda happened to glance at the posted seating arrangement for the New Year's Eve extravaganza that night. They debated if it could really be their Cindy then the helpful hotel fellow told them I was in dining at that very moment. Silly screams and hugs ensured before I recovered my demure. It was lovely to catch a few hours with them and the kids, Allie and Jackie, the next day just before they flew. And as proof of the encounter, here's the photo my mom's been bugging me to post.

An impromptu family reunion in Cambodia - the two kids on the left aren't related.

While I'm here, I can't resist sharing some more photos from my adventures. They're taken with my new close friend, the Lumix DMC-LX1. The reviews are true, it isn't 100% in low light conditions, but otherwise it has quite an impressive array of manual features for a non-SLR and it took some some fab shots for me. Thanks new friend!

Incense drying in the sun in Hue, Vietnam.

One of our walks took us through a village of incense makers. Everywhere we walked we saw colourful, fragrant sticks at various stages of production.

Ta Phrom temple in the Angkor complex, Cambodia.

Until now, archaeologists have left this mid-12th century ruin as it was found 700 years later. It was my favourite site of them all - particularly photogenic too. Unfortunately, we were told that the local authorities have it slated for restoration.

Many faces in Bayon Temple, Angkor
(look closely, how many can you see?)

Ok, Rhonda needs to see these and comment: which one is her and which two are her daughters? No kidding! Regardless, you all look fabulous!

That's hilarious! Amazing how you can meet people you know in the oddest of places. Great photos, too -- looks like you had a fun time on your first B&R gig. Any more coming up in the future?

Really sorry to hear about your friends who got imprisoned, by the way. Any new developments there?
